The Community Outreach and Engagement Core (COEC) is committed to increasing science awareness and education amongst K-12 students. We have a strong history of supporting and leading outreach events to a diverse population of students. By providing resources and increased access to the NIEHS-funded research being done at Oregon State University we hope to inspire and support the next generation of scientists.

On May 2, 2015, the Community Outreach and Engagement Core hosted a table at the Oregon State University Pet Days. EHSC trainee's spoke about sun safety and the importance of protecting your pet from the sun, using UV beads to demonstrate that even on cloudy days, your pet can be exposed to UV radiation.

At another event, 25 Juntos students attended a 90-minute "Your Environment, Your Health" class taught by Dr. Diana Rohlman and Barrett Welch, a graduate student in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences. Students participated in hands-on activities and performed an experiment to understand how toxicity is dependent on the dose of a chemical. Read more about similar events here.
