IHSFC Information for Investigators
Do you want to do a human clinical study?
Our experienced staff can help. We offer comprehensive services to assist and support EHSC investigators in translational human clinical research. The IHSFC has two components: Clinical Research and Statistics.
We have a newly-renovated clinical research facility fully equipped to conduct clinical studies in-house at OSU. We also have collaborations with clinical research facilities at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland which allows for implementation of larger studies. And the former Statistics Core continues to provide expert statistical services to center members.
Here are some things you need to know to get started doing research with human subjects.
First, contact us by phone or email or through our on-line IHSFC services request form. We are best able to help you if we know in advance what kind of support you need. This is especially important when your ideas are in the grant proposal or protocol writing stage. If you plan to use our facilities and services, we need to be sure we can accommodate your needs.
Second, you'll need some training. Before you can start a human study, you'll need to submit it to OSU's Institutional Review Board (IRB) for review. IRB requires that all investigators and staff who have "direct and substantive involvement in proposing, performing, reviewing and reporting research" have training in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR); in biological safety, if they will be handling human specimens including blood and urine; and in radiation safety if they will be handling any radioactive materials (see OSU IRB policy).
