Health is likely to take a hit from drought, wildfires, heat waves, and infectious diseases in the Pacific Northwest according to the Oregon Health Authority.

Perry Hystad research looks into this problem. In 2014 he performed a global study of air pollution and health. With an Early Independence Award from NIH, he plans to focus on the influence of climate on heat stress, air quality and allergens.

Heat-related illness is an example of how the climate change can affect public health. Jeff Bethel’s research looks into how the Pacific Northwest is being affected.
